Full application information and forms will be posted in December 2009. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2010.
As preliminary information, please note that the application will require the following forms and documents:
- Official Application Form
- Official transcripts of all college and/or university training undertaken to date.
- Three letters of reference: two from individuals who can comment on the applicant's academic ability and ability to adapt to Vietnam; and one from a current or former teacher of Vietnamese who can comment on the applicant's skill as a student of Vietnamese. These letters must be originals (not photocopies) and be signed and sealed by the recommender. Letters can be included with the application or sent separately.
- Copies of any Vietnamese proficiency assessments that the applicant may have completed.
- A personal statement outlining academic and/or career goals, indicating how participation in the VASI program will help advance you toward your goals.
- A one-page handwritten statement in Vietnamese concerning your reasons for wishing to participate in the VASI Program and the benefits you expect to derive from it.
Program semi-finalists will be required to participate in a telephone interview in Vietnamese in March 2010. Arrangements for the interview will be made after a preliminary review of all applications has been completed.
